Jonathan “JT” Taylor is an audio engineer and Jackson, MS native .
His career and love for audio started growing up in Jackson, MS. JT wanted to play drums when he was younger, but did not get the opportunity until he joined the band in middle school. That was where the foundation was laid, and it also carried over to High School.
The love of recording audio was discovered when he was in a college prep summer program called Upward Bound. Writing flows and rapping was a pastime for many growing up in urban Mississippi. There was a friendly rap rivalry going on between upstairs and downstairs. JT had a boom box with a CD & cassette tape player at that time so he had the idea to record a mixtape as part of the rivalry. He recorded his first mix tape for his peers without knowing that he was setting the foundation to be an engineer at that time, That passion translated over to digital audio recording software.
JT got into live sound in 2015 volunteering in church. He was inspired, and 2016 was the year that he knew for sure that he wanted to turn live sound into his career. 2017 was the year that live sound started to take off professionally. He was able to become professional by getting paid for his work. He started out as a backline tech. Some of the very first acts he worked with on his first gig was Bobby Rush, Fantasia, Ludachris, Eric Benet, Calvin Richardson, Breezy, and many others. He also got the opportunity to work with the McDonalds Inspiration Celebration Tour back to back his first 2 years as a professional.
The beginning of 2020 was looking like it was going to be a knockout year. JT was getting the opportunity to be involved with most major events in Jackson, MS as an audio tech or stagehand. He got the opportunity the prior year to work in theater with productions such as Tyler Perry’s Medea’s Farewell Tour, Les Miserables, Cats the Musical, and other broadway shows that came to Jackson. Then in March 2020, the live industry closed. That shifted JT’s focus back to mixing house of worship.
2020 ended up being a ground breaking year. JT was able to help aid and assist the growth of multiple churches though commissioning audio systems, new campus expansions, upgrades, and helping with training. This is the year that the consulting side of the business was born, and it all came from demand and the pressure of the marketplace.
JT worked diligently through the pandemic. When the concert market opened fully back up, he quit his day job and became an audio engineer full time. His first year alone, he worked with over 100+ artists from all around the country. He now works as a production manger for one of the most notable and recognized entertainment companies in the state of Mississippi doing some of the best engineering and putting on some of the best light shows.
